Biography
"There are friends and faces that may be forgotten, but
there are horses that never will be."
- Andy Adams
My name is Jill Sahner and I have been in love with horses for
more than half my life. I began riding at the age of
nine after being captivated by the DreamWorks animated film,
Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. Cheesy, I know,
but if not for that movie I have absolutely no idea where I
would be in life now. Horses changed me as a person.
They taught me compassion, responsibility. They taught
me that courage is not the absence of fear, but the ability to
face it. Most of all, I believe they taught me patience.
I began taking photos of horses around the time I turned
eleven. Despite the fact that my camera was a pathetic 2
mega pixel point-and-shoot, I fell in love with the concept of
photography and began learning the ways of the photographic
world. When I was twelve, I not only received my first
digital SLR, but also my first horse, Gus. The two made
for an excellent combination, and although today I no longer
possess either (Gus is retired, living out his life on an
endless supply of grass, and my first camera was stolen out of
my bag at an airport) both had incredible impacts on my life.
Although I currently do not own any horses (my third and last
horse turned out to be more of a medical expense than show
prospect so we recently sold him in April of 2010) my love and
passion for both photography and horses lives on. I
train at Red Oak Farm LLC (http://redoakfarmllc.com
- I designed the website) and continue to attempt to capture
the raw beauty and power of the horse through my photography.
My strongest belief is that in life, everything happens
for a reason.
